Student Life

Esports/Gaming CLub

Originally designed as a full esports program integrated into the athletics department, this initiative aimed to bring competitive gaming to middle and high school students through structured leagues, dedicated coaches, and budgeted support. The first phase focused on student interest via gaming clubs—and the response was overwhelming. Then the pandemic hit. While the larger program was paused, the heart of it lived on through the middle school gaming club, which evolved into a student-led, adult-advised community hub.

Students now coordinate and host after-school gaming events for peers featuring titles like Rocket League, Mario Kart, and Minecraft. Beyond gameplay, they study esports culture, practice event marketing, and create their own community standards for healthy gaming. The club has become a space for affinity, leadership, and shared joy—run by students who love games and love bringing people together through them.

Sports Debate Club

Launched during remote learning, Sports Debate Club gave high school students a creative outlet to recapture the spirited banter they missed from campus life. Built around a living Padlet wall of "hot takes," the club used student-submitted opinions to drive weekly debates. The most contentious or entertaining take would become the center of a structured, fast-paced group discussion. Debates took place at an “argument table,” with students rotating in and out on the fly to support their side. It wasn’t traditional speech and debate—but it was just as rigorous, passionate, and community-driven. Students built persuasive reasoning skills, practiced public speaking, and found space to connect through a shared love of sports, humor, and discourse.
